A long time ago, in another life, when I was a freelance photographer, I started a nonsensical side project centered around lost shoes.
I seemed to find them everywhere I went and could never understand how people managed to lose so many.
I tried to imagine what circumstances could lead someone to lose their shoes, I mean they should be on their feet. Especially a pair or new ones.
I found toddler shoes often and wondered if the littles threw them out open windows while their parents were driving.
I once found a pair of brand new high heels outside of a school in the middle of nowhere and really wondered what was going on there.
I’ve found them on roads, in ditches, in gutters and streams, on beaches often and even on a roof once.
I took pictures whenever I found them, sometimes pulling my car over on the side of the road to get a good shot. My hope was to someday make a coffee table book with my lifetime’s collection of random shoe photos.
But alas nobody makes or reads coffee table books anymore. As a matter of fact, I don’t know many people who even have a coffee table, let alone the need for a book to put on it. I certainly don’t have one.
So about the shoes…none of them were styled for photos. They are all untouched and exactly how I found them, often in the Southern California desert, but sometimes in other places as well.
So now without further ado, I invite you to enjoy just a small snippet of my favorite random shoes…
